On September 10, 2011, when we pulled into the parking lot on 21st and Alabama in Longview, we were hot and sweaty from shooting at Highlander Fest in 90 degree weather, but the sound of laughter and hum of conversation brought us back to life. We were tired but invigorated by the site of families enjoying Archie Anderson Park, great music and free food!

Highlands Neighborhood Association and Solid Rock Fellowship came together to create an EXCLAIMATIOUS event! Rockin’ in the Park was a huge success, thanks in part to Foster Farms for donating 800 hot dogs, Corwin Beverages for donating 5 cases of soda, and Franz’s only charged half price for hot dog buns. The Central Baseball folks blessed the event by allowing use of the concession stands and even helped to cook. Also a big thank you to the Highlands Baptist youth for donating their time by serving and cooking food.

Music was a huge part of the party! The worship team at Solid Rock Fellowship opened up the show for Double Day Vine, Almost to the Ocean and Transparence. Families and friends filled the park and enjoyed the music. Cort Carpenter allowed the use of his band equipment and STack Sound was there to make sure what we heard was amazing!

The goal was to bring the neighborhood some fun and fellowship. One of the leaders from Celebrate Recovery and Pastor Erik Maloy of Solid Rock Fellowship gave a short message of encouragement. We rocked out until the sun went to sleep and the evening was concluded by a movie, shown on a large screen behind the batter’s box. The day was definitely a Home Run!
