On October 26, 2012 The Salvation Army’s Advisory Board pulled off their first of many successful fundraisers for The Salvation Army. The Ghoulish Fall Fundraiser captured the attention of many exciting people, including Kelso’s Mayer, David Futcher and Longview’s Mayor, Dennis Weber. Mixing religion and politics could not be avoided as several local politicians, like Steve Rader and Kelso Police Chief, Andy Hamilton enjoyed the event at The Salvation Army Corps.
The evening started with a rousing message and prayer from Captain Dave of the Longview/Kelso Temple. Guests delighted in a wonderful meal prepared by The Longview/Kelso Temple Corps’s Chef, Trish and several volunteers from local sorority, Epsalon Sigma Alpha.
We were entertained by Captain Ron of The Salvation Army Grays Harbor, Washington Corps with song and a special message. We also heard from Janice Hillman, who gave a very positive report on 4 The Long View Motel, Beverly Gilmore, Christmas Angel Community Center Chair and Exclaim Media’s own, Summer Clemenson who also serves on The Salvation Army Advisory Board as well as Living Ministries, to talk about Christmas Angel Telethon.
There were amazing silent auction items donated by several local businesses, like, Pets, Pawns and Imports, Koelsch Senior Community, Knotty Wares, Canterbury Park, Advantage Chiropractic & Massage, Captain Dave and many more. There was a raffle for a Fender Guitar and Amp and even a Dessert Dash that proved to be EXCLAIMATIOUS…meaning there were more desserts than tables so the evening was brought to a close as Advisory Board Member, Noelle Mclean auctioned them off, one by one.
In the end no blood was shed and over $4100 was dropped in the kettle to feed families this Christmas through the Christmas Angel Community Center that offers toys, clothes and food to local families.
